Discover our horse care products: supplements and electrolytes, hoof care, shampoos and skin treatments, insect repellents, and first-aid supplies. More than 850 products from brands such as Pavo, NAF, Cavalor, Foran, and Hilton Herbs for your horse’s daily routine and specific health needs.
Horse care products: what you need and what each one is for
Choosing the right horse care products starts with understanding its four pillars: feeding and supplementation, skin and coat hygiene, hoof health and prevention (insects, parasites and first aid). This category brings together over 850 products for horses organised by need, from daily grooming kit to the horse care supplies every yard should have.
Horse supplements and electrolytes
Feeding is the foundation of horse care. Vitamins, minerals, gastric protectors and respiratory and joint support for leisure, sport and senior horses.
Hoof care
Moisturising and protecting the hoof is one of the horse care routines that prevents the most lameness. Hoof greases, oils, pine tar and hardeners to keep the hoof wall flexible and protect the frog.
Skin, coat and shampoos
pH-balanced horse shampoos, mane and tail detanglers, anti-itch lotions and dermatological treatments.
Insects and parasites
Fly and horsefly repellents for the warm season, fly masks and wormers.
Wounds and first aid
The basic supplies of any equine first aid kit: antiseptics, wound healers, sterile gauze, thermometers and bandages for grazes and minor wounds.
Grooming
Animal hygiene starts with daily grooming. Brushes, dandy brushes, curry combs and hoof picks to keep your horse's skin, coat and hooves clean.
Horse care routine: daily, weekly and seasonal
A consistent routine prevents most skin, hoof and digestive problems. This table sums up what to check and which horse care products to use at each stage:
| Frequency | What to do and which products |
|---|---|
| Daily | Grooming, picking out hooves, checking for wounds, clean water and forage. Products: Hoof picks, brushes, detangler, salt or mineral lick. |
| Weekly | Hoof moisturising, weight and coat condition check. Products: Hoof grease or oil, pine tar for the frog. |
| After exercise | Cool the legs and replace salts lost through sweat. Products: Electrolytes, cooling gels, clays and bandages. |
| Spring-summer | Control flies, horseflies and itching (sweet itch). Products: Repellents, anti-itch lotions, fly masks and summer sheets. |
| Every 6-8 weeks | Farrier visit and review of the worming plan. Products: Hoof hardeners, wormers as prescribed by your vet. |
Guideline routine. Adapt it to your horse's age, workload and health with your vet.
Basic horse first aid kit: what every yard needs
A well-stocked first aid kit lets you act in the first minutes after a wound or colic while the vet is on the way. At a minimum it should include:
- Digital thermometer (normal adult horse temperature: 37.5-38.5 °C).
- Antiseptic: chlorhexidine or povidone-iodine.
- Sterile gauze and cotton wool.
- Cohesive bandages and stable bandages.
- Wound healing ointment or spray for minor wounds.
- Blunt-tipped scissors and disposable gloves.
- Your vet's phone number displayed in the yard.
How to choose horse care products for your horse's needs
- By workload: a competition horse or one working in summer needs electrolytes and joint support; a leisure horse is usually well covered by good forage and a mineral balancer.
- By age: senior horses benefit from digestive supplements and specific feeds; for foals, bone development comes first.
- By temperament: natural calmers are available for nervous horses when travelling or competing.
- By symptom: itching, cracked hooves or coughing each have their own section in this category. For lameness, fever or colic, call your vet first.
- If you compete: check each supplement's ingredients against your federation's anti-doping rules.

Which horse care products are essential?
A grooming kit (brushes, dandy brush and hoof pick), hoof grease or oil, an insect repellent, a mineral balancer or salt lick, electrolytes if your horse works or it is hot, and a basic first aid kit with antiseptic, gauze, bandages and a thermometer. From there, choose supplements according to each horse's age and workload.
What basic care does a horse need?
Unlimited clean water (an adult horse drinks 25 to 50 litres a day), good-quality forage, daily grooming and hoof picking, a farrier every 6-8 weeks, a yearly dental check, vaccinations and a worming plan set by your vet.
What should a horse first aid kit contain?
A digital thermometer, antiseptic (chlorhexidine or povidone-iodine), sterile gauze, cotton wool, cohesive bandages, blunt-tipped scissors and a wound healing ointment for minor wounds.
Why should you moisturise a horse's hooves?
The hoof carries the horse's entire weight. If it dries out it loses flexibility, cracks and can cause lameness. A specific hoof grease or oil keeps moisture balanced, and pine tar protects the frog against thrush caused by bacteria and fungi.
When should you give a horse electrolytes?
After intense training, competitions, long journeys and on very hot days. They replace the sodium, potassium and chloride lost through sweat and help prevent dehydration and muscle fatigue. Always offer clean water at the same time.
How can you protect a horse from flies and horseflies?
Combine a repellent applied before turnout with a fly mask and summer sheet, and remove manure often. If persistent itching appears on the mane and tail it may be sweet itch: use an anti-itch lotion and ask your vet.
Do I need a prescription to buy horse wormers?
In Spain many equine antiparasitics are veterinary medicines that require a prescription. It is best to plan worming with your vet based on a faecal egg count to avoid resistance.
